Redbone, by Matt Phillips (Fahrenheit Thirteen, 2018)

A laid-off Army veteran struggles with his best friend’s suicide. A brisk, clear, linear stand-alone contemporary noir; a blues song of a novel. Plenty to enjoy, not least its focus on character over complex plotting, and its careful way with genre archetypes. Recommended.

My own books are here, if that’s your thing. Newest is noir thriller East of England.
